Darkness rules her room

until she goes out at night

to get the necessities for staying in.

Stares into a picture

reminding her of home.

Times of a little girl

knowing no strangers.

Uninterested now in the outside,

careless about her abode.

Making no acquaintances

not allowed to share her space,

ideas, dreams, or nightmares.

Like a baby who doesn’t cry any longer

knowing, no one will pick them up.
