The old building with faded paint
Looks for the tenants of decades ago
They went out for cigarettes never to return.
Creaking floors and torn wallpaper
needing tender love and care.
Haunting sounds of another time
echoing the past.
A slam of the apartment door across the hall.
That couple upstairs shouting their hatred
Young men on the door step that couldn’t pay the rent
The place once offering the good life
now through the broken window, gasps for air.
